Valerie Abbott, Associate Director, Research Administration

Valerie has been a part of the research community at Duke for more than a decade. She assisted with the formation of the Campus Award Management Team after her involvement in the Closeout Project initiative. Prior to Duke, she was a Marketing Communications Manager for a biomedical company in the triangle area. Valerie enjoys the variety of responsibilities associated with research administration management and enjoys being an active member in the Duke RA community.

Tonya O'Dell, Research Administration Manager

Tonya joined the Campus Award Management Team in 2019. She brings a wealth of grant management and closeout experience gained over the last 12 years at Duke. She attended William Peace University earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Leadership Management. Tonya’s passion is helping others and being part of a process that can impact numerous people. Outside of work, Tonya enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, watching baseball and she loves Duke Basketball. 

Lora Griffiths, Research Administration Manager

Lora joined the Campus Award Management Team in July 2022. She began her career at Duke with the Office of Sponsored Programs (now PAFM) and has worked at the Eye Center, Pharmacology and Cancer Biology, the Department of Medicine and the CGMT over the past 17 years. The majority of her time has been spent in central offices assisting other grant administrators and their PIs, a role that she truly enjoys. Lora received her Bachelor of Art’s degree in English with a concentration in Professional Writing and a minor in Mass Communications from Western Carolina University. Outside of work, she enjoys reading, cross stitching and watching movies with her husband.

Marie Grinstead, Research Administration Specialist

Marie joined the Campus Award Management Team in 2022. Prior to CAMT, she had 19 years of experience with Duke Credit Union. Marie enjoys helping others and problem solving. Outside of work, Marie spends her time being an advocate for special needs children.
